Poor communication and facility maintenance

Moved my Mom here almost a year ago. Still having issues with getting her paperwork. Told it was done wrong by former staff. Sounds like they are making excuses. Basement in horrible condition, musty and dirty. At the time she moved in they said they were doing updates, but I have seen no improvements. This place needs a good cleaning and updated. Visitors like my family are addressed rudely. I had requested maintenance leaky window about 10 months ago before shut down. No one on maintenance after hours or weekend. Clothes lost in laundry, room dirty, bathroom hallways basement. Refrigerator has not been cleaned since she moved in. Items mailed lost by facility or not given to Mom and held by staff. Now facility is closed due to Covid so I have no idea how Moms living conditions are. I would not recommend putting a Loved one here. Mom is 92 moving again would be hard on family and even harder on her.

WARNING!

My mother was in the Water's Edge memory care facility for four months in 1919. We were charged the highest fee for her care. The staff was insufficient. She was forced to sit up in the morning in her wheelchair so that the staff didn't have to assist her when she was awake at night. She had white gold and silver rings and three watches that were ALL stolen. She couldn't report this because of her advanced dementia. The staff also stole the Ensure drinks from her personal refrigerator and the unopened carton of water bottles. This is a shameful facility that has no business touting themselves as a "christian" organization. They insist on charging us because of hospice items left in the room. My mother is now deceased. A very bad facility!

1st community NEEDS SHUT DOWN!

Mother was taken to this rehab and is a fall risk after hip surgery. She was told to go to the restroom when she's not supposed to get out of bed. Then was told get rid of her waste in the bed pad and then call for it to be changed. I asked where was the bed rails to be told some 4 hours after her arrival the stna needed to evaluate if she needed them. The next person I asked stated the doctor had to order them. When I called for the nursing supervisor it took 20 minutes for a response then I get someone with no badge identification and in my opinion was NOT the supervisor or this place hires clowns for administration. When pain meds were requested they stated they had no order from the doctor. When approaching another nurse I was told they hadn't had time to review her records. Im scrambling to move my mother. DONT SEND family to this physicality!

Administration ineffective

Run. Don't walk away from this place. My mom was in there for nearly a year. It was a blessing to remove her. The administration staff is very unfriendly. I have heard them say negative things about family members of the residents. The turnover of help is amazing. I heard the office manager yell at staff down the hallway. I was there when the alarm went off alerting staff a resident was walking out the door and no one responded for 5 minutes even though they were in their break room. My mother had numerous items missing from her room. The food was not acceptable. Worse quality than cafeteria food. My mother lost 15 pounds while in their care. National residence and the Ohio dept on aging need to take a closer look at this facility and the way the residents and their family members are treated.

I would NEVER recommend this facility.

My father-in-law was there for several months. The staff made excuse after excuse for the unsatisfactory care. They did not give him all his meds, which caused several medical complications. My sister-in-law had to search the medicine room for the medicine she provided but was never administered, and never filed with his meds. Then after complaining about the incompetence and constant need for monitoring by several of his children, they punished him by refusing to let him go outside for fresh air. We discovered unlocked doors and no one at the desk to screen visitors on several occasions. They talk a good story when you are searching for a place for your loved one, but once you move them in its a different world. We know there has been a change of some of the staff, however, I would never recommend this place! Thank god we found a Wonderful place for him. He is happy and well, and all his children can sleep at night without worry.

Very poor experience

Our experience with Legacy Village ended up being a very poor one. My loved ones lived here for a number of years as independent living, and everything seemed fine. However, everything changed when Mom got sick. Legacy Village did not end up coming through on ANY of the rehab or skilled nursing services that they claim to offer. After her hospital stay whenever we would try to bring Mom back to Legacy Village they would always have some reason why she couldn’t move back, despite their advertisements saying that they offered the care services she would need. If your loved one only needs independent living Legacy Village might be a good option, but do not depend on them being able to handle any care issues that come up. After our experience I strongly recommend avoiding them.”

Horrible experience

Nightmare Housing

Our experience was a nightmare and take my loved one out of the community immediately. The food was horrible and the smell was horrible. The floors was terrible, I've seen gas station floors cleaner. The staff was lying about daily living activities. The community was wanting us to pay more, since the meals were being delivered. The meals were being delivered because the community closed the dining room, so they had to deliver the meals to the residents. The director was new and you couldn't communicate with them. If you confronted them they were defensive. Other residents were leaving quickly. There is no communication and they wouldn't respond to emails. One meal was lasagna and rice. I wouldn't leave a dead dog in that place. The community wanted more pills of a medication and they ran short, and they should've had enough to cover a monthly supply.

Look somewhere else

My parents have been residents there for two years and we can’t move them out soon enough. The food and amenities initially were top notch but the last year has gone from bad to worse. They have not been able to keep cooks, service workers or cleaning crew. Cold sandwiches have become the standard fare for dinners because they “have no cook” which is a step up from the raw chicken that has been served in the past. Neither the management nor home office have responded to resident complaints.

Summer 2020 - AVOID this place.

Summer 2020 - Niece typed this so no bad words used. No way to rate with ZEROs. In yrs past was good place, now AVOID it! Mgr can't speak truth. Maint is super lazy wont do repairs. Inside of Bldg is dirty/stinks. Whole bldg & apts stink day/night of cigarette smoke. Lease says NO SMOKING on entire property & it's ignored. Mgr and Maint both smoke on property & in bldg. Pre Covid Mgr kept everything locked, tenants couldnt use anything but outside picnic tables. Mgr, new Asst Mgr & Maint have talked about tenants/called them names with office door open if they complain or want repairs. Tenant stooges for Mgr run building and try boss/intimidate some tenants. Mgr puts written complaints into paper shredder so problems disappear. Mgr tells tenants to NOT call corporate office to complain. Corp office WONT do anything to help. I have finally moved out, thank God.

double billed at this place.

I would not recommend this place. My mother had to go to their rehab/nursing facility after a serious hospital stay. I don't have an issue with the people or facility. What I do want to warn people of, is their billing procedures. It might seem like a small thing but, my mom had a haircut, paid cash and then continued to receive a bill for something she paid for at their facility. We called several times to let them know the bill had been paid at the facility. They requested we provide a receipt but we did not get one. I wrote a letter explaining the situation and they still wanted us to pay the bill. It wasn't a huge amount...it was just the shrewd business habits. They don't know how to keep track of what is paid and then can continue to send out bills. My mom ended up selecting a senior community and we did not even consider this one after the experience. Please watch what you pay for and GET RECEIPTS. They are money hungry and don't care that they are in the wrong.

Buyer Beware!

0 review. This place is AWEFUL! They sold my parents on "all stages of life" and it was not. When my mom got sick, they refused to take care of her saying they didn't have the staff on hand to care for her. Also, it was a rook when it came to the purchase of the residence and then charged nearly $800/month in condo fees and in the end, didn't deliver on the "all stages of life" premise they advertised. Then it took nearly 3 years for them to sell the place at a prorated amount they originally paid. None of this speaks, "non-profit, Christian" to me. Buyer beware!

Not accommodating to mother under hospice care

So sad this facility is politically bent. Want to move my mom out of her assisted living room after 5 years with her cat and under hospice care. Tried to make other arrangements to keep her with her cat, but the staff doesn't seem to care. Very sad. The staff doesn't seem to work well with outside private duty companies. Makes them feel unwelcomed as an outsider.

Stay Clear if Health Care Center

First Community Village was great prior to acquisition by National Church Residences involvement. Under no circumstances should you consider the Healthcare Center. Plz see ODH surveys 2017 & 2015. Ratings demonstrate nurses having difficulty with proper medicine administration. If your loved one can’t self administer this is not the place for you. Also the doctors give medications to patients to suppress their ability to speak. So if a complaint is lodged with Ohio Dept of health your family member can’t offer input in complaints nor communicate when they ate soiled or in pain. My family member is placed in solitary confinement and not allowed in the dining hall due to needing 2 persons to assist them with transfer into transport chair. I hate to say this bc i dont want to admit it but there is a racial element tio my family member’s abuse and neglect. The last time i took my mom to dinner at M restaurant she begged me not to take her back. I had no choice. My mother has recently lost over 26pds and I inquired with the dietician about her malnutrition. I know I sound unbaised but all this is true. I was a whistleblower and bc the nursing home was contributors to the Attorney General I was retaliated against and lost control of my mom. My 68 year old mom is slowly dying and being tortured at First Community but too many people are afraid to get involved. Half of the healthcare center has been shut down. Medicare or CMS may have information as to why the facility is running at less than 50% capacity. Now ask yourself why would a facility in Upper Arlington be half full. Independent Living is much different and this is a better service although NCR has reduced services a bit. Chelsea may not have a desk attendant to assist you. Dont be surpised if your nursing aide is your housekeeper tomorrow. The food at Chelsea is great! I would stay clear of the infamous Health Care Center unless you dont care about your family member and just want to dump them someplace. Assisted Living is a lot better.

The manager is the worst person in the world. How can this company be owned by a company with the name Church in it? The manager is forcing people out and put all those cameras in the building to spy on people. She is following people upstairs to tell the residents that person can't come in their house. She sits and just watches those cameras. And now they say in September they say you can't smoke. Some people have been there for fifteen or twenty years and all of a sudden you can't smoke. You should be able to do whatever you want to do in your own place. The cameras are a gross invasion of peoples' privacy. Remove that dog of a manager. And she watches people whose apartments are cold in the winter to see if they are using heaters.

Keep on Looking!

I thought when I found Traditions At Portage Trail owned by National Church Residences I had finally found a decent place for my mother. They advertise Since 1961 combining compassion and professionalism in our ministry of housing and our services to older adults. It is my experience and opinion that this is all marketing propaganda as there Administrator Josephine H Stanovcak is a dictator who falsifies information just so she does not have to deal with anything and actually leave her office. The elevators are Down for maintenance more than they are up is seems like. On Memorial Day of this year we could not even get my mother out for over 5 hours for our family cookout! I would have hated to see if someone needed lifesaving care during one of their inconvenient outages. The marketing machine in the place promises a lot but is very low on actually producing what it promises. They advertise three meals a day freshly prepared but by prepared they mean pretty much dog food and even that is limited as my mother and her friends often are denied seconds Which would be fine if the portions were actually realistic. My mom is one of the fortunate ones who actually have a very small kitchen so I buy her groceries and microwave foodstuffs to compensate. They are severely understaffed which you can confirm by looking in the help wanted section of the papers They technically allow dogs but since they have some staff who are Cynophobic (Fear of dogs) and then I wonder why would they would hire someone like that if they know dogs are present This makes for a very uncomfortable arrangement for the residence and the staff. It is again my opinion that Dogs allowed are more of a marketing bullet. I believe that it is because of a poor wage for their employee and they have to fill positions so the employee just must deal with it. In continuing I find it funny that the top half of the building is owned or completely run by a different company! Their policy is that no one is allowed from the top floors to come to the bottom floors even if invited. This is a problem as my mother has made a few friends on the upper floors since they meet in the shared elevators and on the common grounds. This is an assisted living facility and if my mother wants the president to come and sit with her in her apartment that is her business Big brother should not have even an opinion! closing I would strongly adjure anyone looking at this facility to keep looking.
