Very Pleased!

I don't have anything to compare them too. They were my first contact for the services tha I was really needing but I am very pleased with them and my wife, the recipient of their care, is very pleased. For what services I'm receiving I feel it's a very good value. I would say that their staff went way beyond expectations in terms of answering my questions and addressing the specific needs we had.

A Place for Dad

After excellent guidance from A Place for Mom, I toured four memory care facilities in Arlington. All were acceptable, but Autumn Leaves was exceptional. It's an uplifting environment, provides wonderful safe outdoor spaces, and is a good value. What really sold me though is the staff. They are knowledgeable, caring, fun, and very respectful of the people living there. I like everything about how they care for those entrusted to them and feel very fortunate that my dad is living there.

Our experience at Colonial Oaks

Initially I was expecting them to provide a bit more, which I now realize would be more of a nursing home level of care. They're more supervisory, and they help our loved one eat and things like that. As a memory care unit, they're really good at navigating emotional outbursts and things that occur with dementia. So for people with dementia who are up and about and just need a little bit of assistance, it's a good place.

Great People and Very Safe

My Mother in Law gets lots of TLC, and is well taken care of here. The people who work there, from the director to all of the Care Team, are truly great people with big hearts. If the food were a little healthier, I would give 5 stars! (The variety of food offered is great, and they are adding more fresh fruit and vegetables. It is improving.) The activities for fun are good, which is so important at this time of the Quarantine, when the residents cannot readily leave for family activities! In this time of uncertainty, I am glad she is there and safe.

Very well run, with competent & caring staff

Mom has lived there since Dec 2018 and has been VERY pleased. The building is relatively new (2016, I believe), and well maintained. The staff is really good, and hats-off to whoever does the hiring, because they are all very competent and dedicated. I can only speak of the non-memory care side, but the Activity Director is phenomenal! She always goes the extra-mile for the residents, and is one of those "lead-by-example" types who inspire the others. I can say the same for their Executive Director, who I've seen carrying back empty food trays, washing resident's hair (during the pandemic), etc. The food is above average, and they're attentive to special dietary needs. My only gripe is that they seem to have raised the price of evening meals for visitors from $5 to $9 (a moot point during the pandemic, but will soon matter). I've seen other facilities take a loss for visitor meals to encourage visitors... I think $9 is a bad decision from corporate! In all fairness, lunch is cheaper, but not as many family members can make lunch.

Puts Your Mind At Ease

It has been a wonderful environment for my father. While we hoped he would have been able to live in assisted living for some time, the staff recognized and informed us that he needed a far better level of care that they could offer through memory care. The fact that they were watching out for him and have continued to do so day in and day out is incredibly reassuring for family. I have no concerns or reservations with the care that they provide and the love and attention they truly exhibit for the residents. Even through the stress of the pandemic, I have never worried that he wasn’t in the best care possible! Love everyone at Colonial Oaks from the front desk to the support staff to the leadership on campus!

a great place for great price

They have really caring staff but they can be hard to get a hold of. Once the community switched nurses, everything was great. Due to varying tastes, I recommend you have a sample meal and try the food for yourself. We chose this community for its location, affordability, availability of the floor plan, and was the place my dad liked the best.

Caring people; great facility.

[Name removed], Executive Director of Autumn Leaves in Rockwall has been very helpful and a constant in my Dad's transition. We communicate often and she has always been available and understanding, as this is not only a new experience for my Dad, but for me as well. Everyone at this facility are very friendly and helpful. I feel very secure in the fact my Dad is receiving the care he needs at Autumn Leaves.

Great Choice

We first toured Autumn Leaves in September, 2017, anticipating the need for my mother in law. We were very pleased with the friendly staff, openness, sun lit rooms, attentiveness of the staff to the residents, the pleasant aroma, and the many activities. Mother became a resident at the end of 2017. [Removed] has been and continues to be of utmost help. She has even taken time off on several days of her vacation to do the input for Mother and to take pictures to send to us. Patti definitely goes above and beyond! And she is a lovely person to work with! We are eager to get to visit with Mother this month. We have received regular communication and pictures indicating she is resting well, eating well, and participating in activities. Our desire was for Mother's life to be enhanced with this move and we believe God has answered those prayers with a big YES. We are grateful for this facility, the philosophy, and the staff.

Great Place for your Mom or Dad

The staff at Autumn Leaves is always helpful and friendly. The leader ship with Chris and Bryan is genuine and easily noticeable they care about your loved one. Our Dad seems to be happy here and has not once ask me or my Mom why is he here. Autumn Leaves is clean place with no odor problems. It is a open style environment for all to freely walk around. It is also a secure place to keep every one in. The overall staff does not come across as a front or fakes they do enjoy what they are doing. We visited other places some higher in cost some lower this one just seemed to work for us. My Mom is 86 and in very good mental and physical health. She said if its her time to need help she wants to come here. I think that is about the best thing I can say about this place.

This is a very good place, I am pretty happy with it.

This is a very good place, I am pretty happy with it. The staff is friendly and they keep it clean. We had asked about the residents rooms and if the doors automatically lock, and they led us to believe that the residents rooms would be locked and our loved one wouldn't be able to wander into other people's rooms. The doors are not automatically locking like we had asked, they are accommodating, and willing to work with us, and I feel this was a misunderstanding, I don't feel intentionally misled. We liked the location, and that they recently had some revamping done, and the carpeting and things looked nicer than another place we were considering. They had nice natural lighting, and they put some science into the decorating, what colors or pictures are best for dementia residents. Brian the Marketing Director was one of the key selling points, we felt he was sincere and down to earth, we never felt like we were being sold. We also liked that they had very few shared rooms.

As much like home as possible

My dad lived at Autumn Leaves in Arlington for a year before he died. My stress level decreased significantly that year from knowing that he was there and in such kind, capable hands. The staff, with no exceptions, is phenomenal, and I was always impressed with their level of communication with family, their willingness to work with the family, and with their expertise. I have no reservations about recommending Autumn Leaves. The only negative thing that comes to mind is that the food isn't very appetizing or tasty. I frequently took my dad some of his favorite meals because I realized that there are many different dietary needs among the elderly, and I kept snacks in a small refrigerator in his room. This seemed to work well for us. He ate in the dining room, but if he didn't like it, he was able to snack on things in his room. Sadly, my dad died in April, shortly after the Autumn Leaves director kindly suggested that I might want to put him on hospice. I'm very grateful that he had such quality care for the last year of his life.

Tour experience

I toured with The Village at Alameda and it was a pretty nice place. I was looking for independent living though and they only offered assisted living. The rooms that I saw were small and dim. The tour was fine, it was very detailed and they gave me all of the information I needed in order to be able to make my decision.

our families experience

They have a lot of activities to keep their residents engaged if they choose. Such as exercise, games, singing old hymns, etc. They food has been really good but we heard they just lost their chef a week or so ago. Don't know how this will change. They have a nice dining area and allow my kids to eat with her at anytime. Location for us since it's a block from our house.

Good overall. Friendly community.

Colonial Oaks seem to be doing a good job, and the people are friendly when I go there. They usually have some activity going on during the day. Just TV, or guessing the titles of songs, etc. sometimes someone comes to give a talk about something. I don't see a lot of interaction with staff lately, but they are upbeat and friendly with me and my sister when I visit.
